What is full-mouth rehabilitation?

Full-mouth rehabilitation is a planned set of treatments that restores most or all of the teeth in both jaws together, rather than one tooth at a time. It is considered when many teeth are worn, broken, decayed or missing, or when the way the teeth meet has changed.

It can combine crowns, bridges, implants, root canal treatment, gum care and sometimes dentures or orthodontics. Because the teeth are rebuilt together, the bite and the look are planned in 3D before treatment starts.

The planning steps used at the clinic are to be confirmed by Dr. Nikhil.

How full-mouth rehabilitation works, shown as an animation. Simplified for explanation.

Signs you might need it

  • Many teeth that are worn down, chipped or broken.
  • Several missing teeth, so chewing is hard.
  • Teeth that have become shorter, often from grinding, so the bite feels wrong.
  • Repeated problems with old fillings, crowns or bridges.
  • Pain or tiredness in the jaw linked to the way the teeth meet.

What happens, step by step

  1. Detailed examination

Teeth, gums, jaw joints and bite, with X-rays, a CBCT scan here at the clinic, photographs and a scan of your teeth.

  2. 3D planning

Your new teeth and bite are planned in 3D, and you see the plan before anything starts. The cost of each stage is told to you in writing before anything is done.

  3. Preparing the mouth

Gum care, fillings, root canal treatment or extractions where they are needed.

  4. Trial teeth

Temporary teeth let you try the new shape and bite, and ask for changes, before the final work is made.

  5. Final restorations and follow-up

Crowns, bridges or implant teeth are fitted in stages, followed by regular check-ups and, often, a night guard to protect them.

How it feels afterwards

Treatment usually runs over several months, in stages. With temporary teeth, eating and speaking can take a little getting used to.

Keeping the new teeth clean, regular check-ups, and wearing a night guard if advised all help them last.

What decides the cost

A fee is only worked out once the doctor has examined you. It depends on:

  • How many teeth are treated, and with what: crowns, bridges, implants or dentures.
  • Any treatment needed beforehand, such as gum care, root canal treatment or extractions.
  • Imaging and 3D planning, and the laboratory work.
  • The cost is told to you in writing before anything is done.

What people ask about full-mouth rehabilitation

It depends on what is needed. Simpler plans can take a few weeks; plans with implants usually take several months, because the bone needs time to heal.
